It is important to remember that any foreigner (whether or not a citizen of an EU member nation) residing in Spain is subject to Spanish law. In the event of any legal problem, it is best to turn to a lawyer. Any person detained in Spain has the right to assistance from an attorney at all police and judicial offices. There are legal aid lawyers provided by the Spanish Government that guarantee that assistance if you do not have the means to pay for an attorney.
If you find yourself involved in any kind of legal problem, it is best to contact your embassy directly, where they can provide you with a list of lawyers who speak your language.
